Jason Y. Ng is an author, columnist and human rights activist. Ng has written four books on Hong Kong including Umbrellas in Bloom (2015), the first book in English to chronicle the Umbrella Movement. His latest work, Unfree Speech (2020), is an urgent manifesto for global democracy co-written with Joshua Wong. As a columnist, Ng contributes to The Guardian, The South China Morning Post and Hong Kong Free Press. He is also a lawyer and an adjunct associate law professor at the University of Hong Kong. Between 2016 and 2019, he served as president of PEN Hong Kong and in 2019 he was elected convener of the Progressive Lawyers Group.
