3/9/2020 – 3/10/2020
This week HKDC – Hong Kong Democracy Council US hosted the first-ever #HKDC Policy Conference and Lobby Day on Capitol Hill in DC — with more than 60 US-Hong Kong activists from 9 different states, and more than 17 different local US-Hong Kong grassroots groups.
Special thanks to Senator Rick Scott, Congressman Jim McGovern, and Congressman Chris Smith for addressing our conference over the course of 2 days and for their unwavering support for democracy and human rights in Hong Kong.
The deepest thanks to the US-Hong Kongers who took the time to come to DC from all across the country — to share and learn together and to speak with one voice for Hong Kong!
The group received briefings from US officials and Congressional aides on the implementation of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act and the purpose and process for targeted sanctions. A special lunch panel featured HKDC board member, Dr. Victoria Tin-bor Hui (University of Notre Dame), HKDC advisory members Tom Kellogg (Georgetown Law) and Dr. Ching Kwan Lee (UCLA/The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology – HKUST)
On Tuesday, participants in teams fanned out across Capitol Hill to meet with various Congressional offices briefing and pressing them on the implementation of HKHRDA.
